The Construction Management degree course has been designed to meet the needs of today’s construction industry, giving you the specialist skills and knowledge needed to manage a construction project from inception and design through to occupation.

The construction industry is a very practical, technical and hands-on environment, and teaching and learning on the course reflects this. You will learn from real life examples, work-related learning, practical sessions, site inspections and expert guest speakers from the sector – all of which brings learning to life and makes for a dynamic student experience.

Upon graduation, you will be able to deliver construction projects safely, on time, on budget, and to the highest possible quality and construction standards. You will be able to apply the key theories, concepts and principles used in construction management - including measurement, building appraisal and performance, design and buildability - and will benefit from having a solid base in general business management theory.

As a Construction Management graduate, you will also be able to apply evidence-based approaches to analysis, evaluation, decision making and problem solving within the construction industry, making you the true specialist that employers are looking for.

Assessment on the course is designed to provide suitable opportunities for all students to demonstrate a full range of knowledge, skills and competences that are key in construction management. Assessment methods include essays, reports, real-life simulations, presentations, projects and group debate.

You will be required to work in your own time to complete research, homework tasks or group work. Self-study is vital to your success on this course and lecturers will give you guidance on how best to approach this throughout the study period.

Assessment methods at GBS are reviewed annually and may be updated based on student feedback, to suit content or based upon feedback from an External Examiner. An External Examiner is an independent academic expert from an external Higher Education Institution that acts as a safeguard to academic assessment standards.

80 UCAS tariff points (or above) or 60 Credit Ofqual qualification at level 3 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above or equivalent qualifications including English and Mathematics.

Applicants aged 21+
If applicants aged 21+ do not meet the standard entry requirements, we will also consider those with life/work skills which would make them suitable for undergraduate study with our Foundation programme.

English Proficiency
IELTS 5.5 overall (minimum 5.0 in all components) where English is not the first language of students.

All applicants are assessed by the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Admission Team via interview for listening and speaking and for writing via a Personal Reflection Statement.

Funding your study

All students can access student finance. 

Tuition Fee Loans

A Tuition Fee Loan covers the cost of your tuition fees. This is paid directly to your awarding institution (in this case Bath Spa University). Loan repayments only start once you have finished your course and are earning £26,575 a year or more. Both full- and part-time learners can apply.

Maintenance Loans

If you are eligible, you can also apply for a Maintenance Loan to cover living expenses. This loan is paid directly into your bank account at the start of term. Maintenance Loans has are repaid after you finish your course and your earnings are above £26,575 per year. For more information, please visit .

Maintenance Grants

You can also apply for a Maintenance Grant to help with living costs. Maintenance Grants are paid directly into your bank account at the start of term. You don’t have to pay them back, but any funds you get will reduce the size of the Maintenance Loan you could receive, should you also wish to apply for one.

New students must prove they have been living in the UK for five years before their course start date in order to get living cost support from Student Finance England.

Within the foundation year, we prepare the foundation academic for our students by preparing them for Academic Research and Writing; and Preparing for a Professional Career. The students will be introduced to Management knowledge; the Built Environment; Building Design and Building Science; and Construction Management.

Moving on to the first year of the construction management course, students will learn about Law and Statutory Requirements; Commercial and Organisational Environment in Construction; Construction Methods, Materials and Technology; Operational and Resource Management; Innovation in Construction; and The Environment and Sustainable Issues.

After the initial core knowledge, we will provide you with a deeper knowledge for the construction industry. The students will be introduced to Preconstruction Management: Planning, Estimating and Tendering; Professional Practice; Economic and Financial Management; Environmental and Construction Technology Design; Maintenance of Buildings and Services; and Research Methods in Construction and the Built Environment.

In the final year of the BSc (Hons) Construction Management with Foundation Year course, we aim to get you ready for the industry with full preparation and knowledge. You will learn about - Contracts Management and Dispute Resolution; Sustainable Construction and the Environment; Current Issues in the Built Environment; Research Project; and Project Management: Development and Evaluation.
